PROGRAM

Lloyd Rhodes introduced Sheriff Al Lamberti who is a fellow Rotarian of the Deerfield Beach Club.  He has donated a day with a sheriff for our auction.  Sheriff Lamberti stated that his number one concern is public safety.  Some of the things he has done to cut the budget is to mandate direct deposits, which saves the city $350,000 a year and he started transporting fuel from Port Everglades which saves $250,000 a year.  At the last budget cut, 43 law enforcement personnel were cut back at schools, 68 jail depuites were cut and one jail was closed. We have the tenth largest jail system that is at 91% capacity.  He spoke about identity theft and stated that the number one thing to do to prevent identity theft is to purchase a shredder. He also stated that South Florida is a major target for a terrorist attack and feels we are becoming complacent when it comes to terrorism.  He then had a question and answer period.
