 Dear Rotarians and Guests:

The Rotary Club of Fort Lauderdale, known as the "Downtown Rotary," was founded in 1922, 94 years ago. With over 135 members, it is the oldest service organization in Broward County and largest club in the Rotary District of Southeast Florida, The Florida Keys and Grand Bahama Island. The original 13 charter members of the club believed that service did not only apply to better business and professional conduct but to service for the betterment of humanity and fellowship in the everyday affairs of life.

The mission and activities of our club exemplify the Rotary International motto of "Service Above Self."  Our Rotarians are active as leaders in civic and community life.  Over the years the Club has raised over $3 million to fund scholarships and projects that serve needs in our community through our own 1090 Foundation as well as projects world-wide through the Rotary International Foundation.  Our club has a legacy of service due to the wide range of projects it has initiated over the years, from sponsoring wheelchairs for mobility to providing toys, food and warm blankets for the holidays to the under-served in our community.  We have hosted students from around the world as part of the Rotary Youth Exchange Program aimed at promoting international understanding and peace and have supported clean water projects in the Caribbean and Africa as well as the Rotary worldwide campaign to eradicate polio.

Please join us at the Global Events Center in Fort Lauderdale for a Wednesday lunch meeting, or the evening social on the last Wednesday of every month.  You will find engaging speakers, fellowship and learn about the passion for service that is shared among 1.3 million Rotarians in 35,000 clubs in over 200 countries who come together to create positive, lasting change in communities and around the world.

In 2016 to 2017, the Rotary Club of Fort Lauderdale will focus on providing opportunities for our community to engage the principles of Rotary.  We will increase our efforts to increase our visibility locally as well as globally to demonstrate our commitment to this year's theme "Rotary Serving Humanity" - and let the effect of "Service Above Self" show in our communities!
Thomas "Tom" Powers
2016 - 2017 President
